Bonsoir, mes amis! Oui, c'est Abby!
In English: Good evening, my friends! Yes, this is Abby!
Today, my family explored again! We used a combination of taking the bus and walking to get to the Eiffel Tower (no, we haven't gone inside yet; yes, we finally have pictures!), the American Library, which we now are a part of (I already found four books to check out, but my dad only let me take 2, because we didn't have a bag, and 4 books would be too hard to carry :P), and then we walked to my school, Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel. We took the metro home from that, to help me learn the route that I'll have to take to school!
Well, that's it for today, I think. The pictures I took for the Eiffel Tower are on another page, and I have to say, you know how huge everyone tells you it is? Well, it's even bigger in person! Hope that you're all well, and that you like the pictures!

the first 72 hours
I know abby posted with lots of photos of our walk to Notre Dame. I know you will enjoy reading it. I wanted to let you know about our first few days here.
We landed at de Gaulle airport around 7:30 am Thursday morning. All of us tired as you would expect. We had no trouble with customs they just checked our passports and visas so that was easy. You know how we think we have too much security at our airports - well as we walked out of the gate at de Gaulle and into the terminal there was a soldier with a machine gun. They mean business!!!!! We saw this again at the Eiffel Tower on Friday.
Thursday was all about settling into our apt. it is nice but small by our standards but not parisian standards. still it has everything you need including a washer/dryer and nice kitchen with dishwasher and gas stove and oven. so joe and i are ready to cook.
Friday we walked around our neighborhood and went to a mall not too far from us. Later we went to find Abby's new school and the bookstore followed by the Eiffel Tower. along the way we stopped for cold beverages (no wine yet) so we had a lovely french experience. the eiffel tower is awesome but the lines so long that no one went up. we'll go back another time.
Saturday some more wandering. we went to the moufatard market a wonderful market with everything you could want except paper goods. that evening we went to a colleague's home for dinner. She gave us some things such as adaptors and especially important her printer and caddy aka shopping cart. a most useful item since i will walk to the store not drive.
today is Sunday and as you will read Joe made a pilgrimage to IKEA and Abby and I walked to Notre Dame. A beautiful day - sunny with a cool breeze.
so that is our first few days here. I keep thinking that i will be going home in 10 days but nooooooooooo.
I will keep you informed meanwhile love to all

August 1st Pictures
Okay, here's the deal, people. The picture to the left of these words is of the Luxembourg Gardens. After that, it's all Saint Chappel until you get to where it says "Notre Dame". Then are the rest of the Luxembourg Garden pictures, after where I wrote "Luxembourg Gardens" (surprise, surprise).

Me and Mommy's Day Out
Hello all! This is Abby (hence my use of the word "Mommy" in the title of this post). Today, while my dad was out at IKEA, checking out some furniture, my mom and I took a three-hour-long walk that included the Luxembourg Gardens, Notre Dame, and Saint Chappel.
We didn't get to see all of the Gardens- that would've taken days- but we did see a bit, and they are lovely. There was a really good band playing in a large gazebo that was a pleasure to listen to. For kids, there was a large play area; not to mention basketball courts, pony rides, and food. Ah, food, how I loveth thee.
My mom and I only saw the outside of Notre Dame, because the line was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long (even longer than "way" there!). But we got a great view of the outside, and we got to hear the bells chiming at the hour. It was beautiful.
The Saint Chappel is the most gorgeous place I've ever been to in my entire life. Maybe that's just because I'm in love with stained glass, but whatever the reason, I was struck dumb when I saw it. It's impossible to describe the stained glass window panes with words, so I'm not even going to try. The statues and paintings were fabulously intricate, too.
Well, that's about it! I took a lot of pictures- they're in the post titled "August 1st Pictures"- so I hope you like them! Here's a guide to what pictures are where:
1. The pictures from the potato chips to the pond were taken in Luzembourg Gardens; 2. The giant church and the (suckish) picture after it are of Notre Dame; and 3. All the rest are of Saint Chappel.
