Joe's grandfather, also named Joseph, was born Joseph Bella in Shepatovka, the Ukraine. When he came to the U.S. his name was translated to White. Joe's grandfather then became a pharmacist. His brother Jonah had 3 sons who emigrated to Israel: Monia, Leo and Moishe. Monia who was Joe's father's first cousin, eanred his doctorate in chemistry and when he moved to Israel opened a pharmacy on King David Street. The signs are still there today.
